General Mills facing lawsuit over alleged racial discrimination

(CNN)– Cereal maker General Mills is accused of racial discrimination by some of its employees.

In a federal lawsuit filed this week, 8 Black employees working at a factory in Covington-Georgia accuse management of favoring white employees for promotions.

They also claim managers issued more disciplinary actions against Black workers and used a racist term.

The lawsuit alleges the factory’s human resources has ignored the incidents of racism and those who complained to HR were retailed against.

This is alleged to have happened over the course of more than two decades.

General Mills would not comment on pending litigation but the company said in a statement it does not tolerate discrimination of any kind.

The company adds that it has a “long-standing and ongoing commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion”.
