Law could make booze cheaper at small stores

(CNN)– Federal Regulators are planning to use a rarely-enforced law from the Great Depression to allege America’s largest alcohol distributors is unfairly pricing wine and spirits.

That’s according to a person familiar with the matter.

The source said a planned Federal Trade Commission lawsuit against Southern Glazer’s Wine and Spirits would aim to lower alcohol costs for consumers.

The Miami-based company operates in 44 states.

The move would hope to ensure mom-and-pop shops have a level playing field against big chains.
