Coroner identified person who drowned at Lake Monticello

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– The Fairfield County Coroner’s Office is releasing the name of the person who drowned at Lake Monticello on Saturday, says the coroner’s office.

According to Coroner Chris Hill, 18-year-old Joel Joseph Martin of Blair, was swimming at Lake Monticello when he went under water and did not resurface on Saturday, June 8.

Emergency crews and dive teams were called to the area where they located Martin.

An autopsy has been scheduled and the incident remains under investigation by the Fairfield County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR).
