Fairfield County deputies respond to prank call about gun at magnet school
FAIRFIELD COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– The Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to a magnet school after receiving a call about someone having a gun inside of the school.
On Wednesday, June 12, deputies say they received a call indicating that someone had a gun inside Fairfield Magnet School for Math and Science on US-321 Bypass in the Winnsboro area around 2:20 p.m.
Deputies and school staff quickly cleared the school and determined the call was a prank phone call. Deputies are currently working closely with the school district to address the incident.
Sheriff Montgomery: “We want to use this incident as a teaching point for everyone. We encourage all parents to educate their children on the responsibilities of carrying a cell phone and the seriousness of making these types of prank phone calls. I’m proud that we had approximately 15-20 deputies on scene within minutes who were ready to address any incident that may have been occurring. However, with prank calls such as this, that’s 15-20 deputies taken away from other duties which are so important to keeping our county safe. I want to thank the school district staff who did a phenomenal job of working with us through this incident. Although this was a prank call, the collaborative response that was demonstrated highlights the great partnership that we have with them.”
