DSS holds annual World Elder Abuse Awareness Day Walk

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Dozens gathered on Friday morning, June 14, at the Department of Social Services for a walk to recognize World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

The goal is to draw attention to the neglect and physical, mental, and financial abuse experienced by seniors in South Carolina and across the country.

Those we spoke with say it’s an issue more common than you may think.

In some cases the abuse may even be coming from a member of the person’s family.

If you or someone you know is the victim of elder abuse contact your local law enforcement agency or the state attorney general’s office.
