FAA investigating after Southwest Airline plane plunges toward ocean

(CNN)– The FAA is investigating after a Southwest Airlines flight plunged toward the ocean near Hawaii.

The April 11th incident came to light on Friday, June 14, after Bloomberg reported Southwest sent a memo to pilots about the incident.

Flight tracking data shows the Boeing 737 Max 8 dropped at a rate of more than 4000ft a minute at one point.  It flew as low as 400ft before rapidly climbing.

Southwest did acknowledge the incident in a brief statement, but did not address the memo or why the incident took place.
