SCHP: Deputy chase ends in fatal tree collision

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– South Carolina Highway Patrol says a driver involved in a chase with law enforcement died in a collision on Friday.

It happened on Colonial Drive after 2:30 p.m. on Friday, June 14, according to troopers.

The driver was trying to evade law enforcement when they ran off the road near the intersection of Hurst Drive and hit a tree.

The driver later died at the hospital.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office is working to identify the driver.
