Staying cool this Summer will cost more than usual

(CNN)– Keeping cool could burn a hole in many U.S. household budgets this Summer.

Average monthly power bills are expected to be 3% higher in June, July, and August compared to last year, according to the Energy Information Administration.

This surge in cost comes largely from people using air conditioning to combat hot and humid weather.

Among the regions recently swearing it out, the southwest, northwest and Washington D.C. which could soon see triple-digit temperatures for the first time in nearly a decade.
