Georgetown native, track & field athlete secures ticket to Paris Olympics

A Georgetown native and former Coastal Carolina University student-athlete will be heading to the Paris Olympics this summer.

Melissa Jefferson took second place in the women’s 100-meter dash at the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials in Eugene, Oregon Saturday night, June 22.

 

Jefferson secured second place behind Sha’Carri Richardson with a new personal best time of 10.80 seconds.

The top three competitors, rounded out with Twanisha Terry in third place, qualified for the U.S. Olympic team.

The 2024 Summer Olympics are set to begin July 26.
