A South Carolina State University professor was cast to play roles in multiple upcoming Tyler Perry productions.

According to Ursula Robinson, a professor of professional drama at SC State University, If you’re going to teach the dream, you have to live the dream. And for Robinson, appearing in Tyler Perry film and television projects was a dream come true.

“The Professional Drama Program’s motto is ‘Live Your Dreams,’ and how I can lead others to their dream without pursuing mine own?” Robinson said in an interview with SC State.

She left her dream of working in TV and film to concentrate on the teaching aspects of her career, but as the Drama Program began to evolve, so did she.

“As the Drama Program began to incorporate more TV and film into our curriculum, it was important for us to provide them with up-to-date information about the industry,” she said.

The need to provide her students with accurate industry information drove Robinson to strive for acting opportunities with Tyler Perry Studios.

Robinson’s latest credits include four episodes in the second and third seasons of the television series “Hightown” where she played “Chanise”. She also plays “Linda” in “Tyler Perry’s Divorce in the Black,” which is set to debut on Amazon Prime Video July 11. Robinson is also cast as “Delinda” in another Perry project, the Netflix series, “Beauty in Black,” which is still in production.

“Tyler Perry’s Divorce in the Black,” was her second time working with Tyler Perry Studios but her first directly with Perry.

“It was a dream come true,” Robinson said. “My first day on set I was nervous. What do you do when your dreams come true?”

Robinson hopes her professional credits will work as a recruitment tool for the university and she hopes to inspire more students to join SC State’s Professional Drama Program and the Henderson-Davis Players.
