Riverbanks Zoo mourns the loss of beloved giraffe

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Riverbanks Zoo and Garden is mourning the loss of beloved giraffe Charlie.

According to the zoo’s social media account, Charlie passed away earlier this week after suffering from ongoing health concerns and a declining response to treatment.

Zoo officials say Charlie fathered seven calves in his lifetime and several of the calves have gone on to calves also.
