LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– A Columbia man is charged with murder after investigators say he is accused of killing his mother last December.
According to an arrest warrant, 37-year-old Terry Lee Self Jr., is being charged with the murder of his mother, Regina Arroyo.
Detectives say Arroyo’s body was found by a canoer in the Edisto River on December 3, 2023.
“Detectives confirmed the suspect and his mother were at the suspect’s house and left there together after an argument,” says Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon.
Lexington County investigators found evidence that indicated Self used a ligature to strange Arroyo, and dumped her body in the river.
Self is being held in Richland County at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center on an unrelated charge.
Lexington County Sheriff’s Department charged him Monday and brought him before a magistrate who denied him bond.
“Detectives have been working on this case for seven months zeroing in on the person responsible for Ms. Arroyo’s death,” Sheriff Koon says.
