Former Boeing inspector alleges workers used ‘scrap’ parts on planes

(CNN)– A former Boeing inspector is alleging scrap parts were used on the assembly lines at the 787 Dreamliner Factory in Everett, Washington.

Merle Meyers worked as a quality-control manager at Boeing for 30 years.

He estimates that beginning in the early 2000s, about 50 thousand parts that were deemed unsuitable to fly were taken out of an internal scrap yard and used to build aircrafts.

He says those parts ranged from small items like screws to more complex assemblies like wing flaps.

Meyers claims it was done in order to meet production deadlines.
