Deadline on DOJ plea deal approaching for Boeing

(CNN)– The Justice Department wants a guilty plea from plane maker Boeing as part of a deal with the company.

If not, the DOJ must file criminal charges against the company by July 7, in order to go to trial.

According to lawyers representing families of the victims of two fatal 737 Max crashes, the department is nearing an agreement with Boeing.

It includes a guilty plea to criminal charges, a fine, and a corporate monitor. The victims’ families say it’s a slap on the wrist for Boeing.

No word from the DOJ on the potential plea. Boeing is declining to comment.
