Boeing pleads guilty to fraud

(CNN)– Boeing is paying a fine to avoid prosecution, according to a Justice Department court filing.

It says the aircraft maker has agreed to plead guilty to conspiracy to defraud the U.S.

That charge stems from 2018 and 2019 crashes in which 346 people died.

The document lists the fine as up to $487 million.

That’s a fraction of the almost 25 billion victims’ families want Boeing to pay.

Boeing confirms reaching an agreement in principle but did not give details.
