USDA issues alert on meat products

(CNN)– The USDA has issued a public health alert for ready-to-eat meals that were illegally imported from the Philippines.

The imported products include corned beef and a chicken spread that were shipped to 9 states, including South Carolina.

According to the agency, the Philippines is not eligible to export meat and poultry products to the U.S.

The agency found the products while performing routine surveillance at a retailer.

An investigation is underway into how the products got into the country.
