Richland County Council passes proposed Transportation Penny Tax Referendum
RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– The Richland County Council passed a proposed Transportation Penny Tax Referendum on Tuesday, July 16.
The council passed the referendum for the third time, meaning it will appear on the general election ballot in November.
According to officials, voters will decide to extend the penny tax, which expires in 2026.
Council members say the estimated transportation costs to be paid from the proceeds of the new penny are approximately $4.5 billion.
That’ll go towards projects for the county advancement, community investment and enhancing the Comet Transit system.
