SC Lottery raises $592 million for education

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– For the fourth straight year, the South Carolina Education Lottery is announcing it has raised more than half-a-billion dollars for education.

The $592 million raised will benefit South Carolina students for the Fiscal Year 2024.

“I am incredibly pleased that the Lottery is making a significant contribution to education for the upcoming year,” said the Lottery’s Executive Director Dolly Garfield.

SC Lottery officials say an unprecedented five, multi-state jackpots that topped over a billion dollars and the addition of a new rolling jackpot to South Carolina’s own Palmetto Cash 5 game all contributed to the Lottery’s year-end results.

Chairman of the SC Lottery Commission, Sam Litchfield adds, “On behalf of the Board, we are proud of the Lottery’s continued success.  These funds will guarantee that South Carolina is a great place to earn an education, live and work.”

Lottery proceeds are deposited into the Education Lottery Account, from which the General Assembly makes appropriations in support of higher education scholarships and grants, K-12 public education programs and community education programs throughout the state.

Also, lottery officials say the FY 2024 saw lottery players win more than $1.6 billion in prize money and lottery retailers earned in excess of $168 million in commissions.
