Body of missing fisherman found, says Kershaw Fire Services

Kershaw Co., S.C. (WOLO) — The Kershaw County Fire Services say the missing fisherman’s body has been located by SCDNR around 8 a.m.

According to Kershaw County Coroner David West, 38-year-old Antonio Hernandez, from Richland County was identified as the drowning victim.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday morning.

The coroner’s office also says Hernandez was at the Tail Race (Wateree River behind the dam) on the Lugoff side of the river.

Kershaw Co., SC (WOLO) — The Kershaw County Fire Services, along with Kershaw EMS and the Lugoff Fire Services are actively searching for a possible drowning victim. According to the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office, Camden and Kershaw Rescue Squads requested divers respond to the 1600 block of Tail Race Road for a potential drowning just after 5 pm Thursday evening.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, emergency crews arrived and began their search in the area behind the Lake Wateree dam which is located on the Wateree River. Authorities say they searched that area from 5:30pm until they were pulled from the water around 6:59pm because of heavy storms moving through the area.

Officials say they nearly an hour for weather conditions to calm before they resumed their search at 7:52 pm and then called the search off for the night around 10:30 pm. Kershaw officials tell us they plan to resume their search at 7:30 Friday morning.
