COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)— In today’s look at Local Living, just ten days away from the first ever “803 Day”.

Event organizers say the day is meant to celebrate and symbolize the unity and vibrant spirit of the Columbia area and its 803 area code.

The day will include a 5K run/walk, a festival and a city-wide scavenger hunt. The fun kicks off Saturday, August 3.

Ready to save on back-to-school? The state’s annual Tax Free Weekend is set for Friday, August 2, through August 4.

During the weekend you can buy certain items without paying the state’s 6% sales tax.

You can purchase clothing, school supplies, and even computers.

Unfortunately items like smart phones and jewelry are not tax free.

As we get closer to August, the start of the school year is getting closer and already many families have started back-to-school shopping.

CNN’s Jenn Sullivan looks at how much families are spending and ways to score some deals.

The City of Columbia is partnering with Sistercare for a toiletry drive.

Sistercare helps victims of domestic violence.

They’re looking for donations like facial wipes, deodorant, and liquid hand soap.

This Saturday at Soda City market, you can donate to Sistercare by taking part in a dunking booth in which you can pay to dunk Mayor Rickenmann, as well as others.
