1 arrested, officers continuing search for another in the death of missing Sumter teen
SUMTER, S.C. (WOLO)– A teen is in custody and officers are continuing the search for a 20-year-old in connection to the death of a Sumter teen who was reported as missing this week, say investigators.
Sumter Police say 17-year-old Jaylen Hammett, of Manning, was charged with accessory before the fact of murder after investigators arrested him at a home in Clarendon County on Wednesday, July 24, in relation to the death of Derrick “CD” Wilson.
Hammett is being held without bond at the Sumter County Detention Center.
The Sumter Police Department, Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office, Manning Police Department and the S.C. Law Enforcement Division are working to find 20-year-old Ja’Hugh L’Goeshay Brukale Martin, of Manning in connection with murder and possible other charges for the death of Derrick “CD” Wilson.
Wilson who would have turned 16 on Friday, July 26, was last seen on Tuesday, July 23, leaving the home of a relative on Meadow Circle and then getting into a car with two unknown individuals.
His body was found by Sumter PD officers on Thursday, July 25, in the Hoyt and Nelson streets area with an apparent gun shot wound.
