Midlands Back-to-School events, supply drives for the upcoming year

 

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– As parents in the Palmetto State prepare for the upcoming school year, they will be looking for places to get school supplies.

ABC Columbia has a list of places to help you prepare for the new school year and have some fun before school begins.

 

RICHLAND COUNTY:

Columbia Police Department:

The Columbia Police Department is holding a Back-to-School Bash and partnering up with Target and Walmart to make the bash happen.

It will be held on Sunday, July 28, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Busby Street Community Center.

There will be free food and school supplies.

Verizon Wireless:

Columbia area Verizon Wireless stores are having a giveaway for the back-to-school season.

To ease parents financial burden, Verzion is giving out $3 million worth of free backpacks on Saturday, July 28, beginning at 1 p.m.

These are the store locations taking part in the giveaway: 1221 Chapin Road Ste G, 1100 Dutch Fork Road Ste G, 851 Highway 378 Ste 104, and 113 Heritage Drive.

 

ORANGERBURG COUNTY:

Orangeburg County YMCA:

The Orangeburg County YMCA is helping people in the community gear up for school by hosting a Back-to-School Bash at the YMCA.

The YMCA is teaming up with the Willie Jeffries School of Excellence for the free event that will be held on Friday, August 2, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the gymnasium.

There will be free giveaway, raffles, food and more.

 

LEXINGTON COUNTY:

Cayce Police Department:

The Cayce Police Department is holding a Back-to-School Bash on Saturday, July 27, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

The family fun free event will have snowcones, popcorn, a DJ, haircuts, and more from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Anyone looking to donate school supplies can drop them off at 2 Laverne Jumper Road, donate online or mail in the donations, click here to find out more.

West Columbia Police Department and Turner Memorial:

On Saturday, Aug. 3, the West Columbia Police Department is teaming up with Turner Memorial to host a Back-to-School Bash.

The bash will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 754 B Avenue (WeCo Community Center).

Food and drinks will be provided to the free school supplies event.

The police department says due to limited supplies, you must live in West Columbia to qualify.

Timberlake Country Club:

Timberlake Country Club is holding a Back-to-School Slip ‘N Slide on the driving range on Saturday.

The August 3, event will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and is open to members and house guest.

People looking to go to the event have to RSVP by July 31, at Timberlakecountryclub.com.

 

Arise Church:

Arise Church is hosting a free backpack giveaway event on Saturday, July 27, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The giveaway will be held at Irmo Community Park (7507 Eastview Drive, Irmo).

There will be free food, live music, free haircuts, sports physicals and more.

Gaston Police Department:

Gaston Police Department is holding a Back-to-School Bash on Wednesday, July 31, at 3 p.m. until 7 p.m.

The sponsored event will be held at 131 N. Carlisle Street.

Free hotdogs and snow cones will be given away, while families can get free school supplies.

SUMTER COUNTY:

Bishopville-Manning-Shaw AFB (SC) Alumni Chapter Kappa Alpha Psi, Fraternity Inc:

On Saturday, July 27, the Bishopville-Manning-Shaw AFB (SC) Alumni Chapter Kappa Alpha Psi, Fraternity is hosting a Back-to-School Bash for the community.

The bash will be held at Birnie Hope Center (210 S Purdy St), from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

There will be free food, community vendors, music, and college recruiters for everyone to enjoy the day.
