DOJ: TikTok could influence U.S. elections

(CNN)– The Justice Department says TikTok could influence U.S. elections.

In court filings on Friday, the Justice Department raised concerns that the social media music app’s algorithm could allow the Chinese government to influence voters.

The filing is in response to a federal lawsuit TikTok brought against the U.S. government in May.

The lawsuit was an attempted to block a law that could force a nationwide ban of the app.

According to the law signed in April, TikTok has until mid-January 2025 to find a new owner, or it will be banned from the U.S. entirely.
