South Carolina firefighters are coming to the rescue in five other states needing wildfire assistance.

The state Forestry Commission announced on Monday that it sent 13 wildland firefighters and other personnel to join these crews after multiple requests in July.

The 13 Forestry Commission workers have either traveled to or returned from wildfires in California, Idaho, Oregon, South Dakota and Washington.

Their work assignments span everything from firefighters, heavy equipment bosses and tractor plow operators to public information officers and base camp managers, among others.

The Forestry Commission sends personnel out west every year in response to calls for out-of-state assistance.
