SCDOT prepares the state for Hurricane Debby

 

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– The South Carolina Department of Transportation is preparing for the potential weather impacts of Tropical Storm Debby, said SCDOT.

SCDOT is reminding the public that with the large amounts of possible rainfall possibly beginning this week to prepare for the weather.

Following preparation work over the weekend, on Monday SCDOT has shifted into 24-hour operations in order to be prepared for storm response.

Officials said rain could cause flash flooding or ponding on roadways.

The public is urged to never drive through standing water.

Crews worked throughout the weekend with a focus on coastal areas to clear storm drains and prepare for anticipated heavy rainfall.

As of today there are around 2,300 SCDOT employees mobilized throughout the state as SCDOT continues to monitor the forecast with plans to deploy personnel to affected areas.

Secretary of Transportation Justin Powell said, “SCDOT is prepared and ready to respond to the impacts of Tropical Storm Debby. This is a time when we have all hands of SCDOT engaged and ready to work together in the coming days, with employees from across the agency filling needs like damage assessment and call center staffing. This ‘all hands’ approach is part of our agency’s culture and is an essential part of our storm response.”
