SCSO: 2 people wanted for Rembert man’s death arrested on Wednesday morning
SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Two people wanted for the murder of a Rembert man have been arrested on Wednesday morning, said SCSO.
Terone Justin McCray and Nia Laprece Wright were wanted after allegedly shooting and killing 32-year-old Jaquen Marquel Jefferson, of Rembert, on Sunday morning, Aug. 4.
Around 6 a.m. on Sunday, Sumter County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call reporting that a victim had been wounded by shots fired into a car traveling on Dinkins Mill Road.
When deputies arrived to the scene, they found that the passenger in the victim’s car was the victim of a gunshot wound and was unresponsive.
Jaquen Jefferson was placed into an ambulance by EMS with the help of Sumter County deputies, and taken to Prisma Tuomey Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
After interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence, deputies learned that before the shooting the suspects allegedly argued with Jefferson, made threats, assaulted him, and brandished firearms in the parking lot of an area establishment.
McCray, and Wright made arrangements with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, and the United States Marshall Service to turn themselves in at the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office where they were arrested and served warrants for murder.
McCray and Wright were taken to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center and are awaiting a bond hearing.
Anyone with information that may be helpful to investigators is asked to contact the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office at 803-436-2000.
Sheriff Anthony Dennis said, “It saddens me how often disagreements lead to gun violence. In this incident, a person lost his life.”
