Gov. McMaster held another briefing on Tropical Storm Debby
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Governor Henry McMaster held a fourth media briefing with state emergency management officials to update the public on the state’s response to Tropical Storm Debby today, Thursday, August 8, at 2 p.m.
Since landing into Florida as a Category 1 hurricane on Monday, Aug. 5, Debby has dumped more than a foot of rain over parts of Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.
As of early Thursday, Debby has whipped up at least 11 tornadoes which was confirmed by the National Weather Service.
That includes four tornadoes in Florida, four in South Carolina and three in North Carolina. In the Midlands Debby impacts cities and counties with heavy rainfall and flooded streets.
As of midday Thursday, there were closures on around 111 state-maintained roadways in the state. SCDOT says crews have reopened 69 storm-related road closures and all major interstate highways remain open.
