IRS reviews COVID tax credits

(CNN)– The IRS is once again processing pandemic-era tax credit claims from businesses while cracking down on fraudulent claims.

The agency paused reviewing claims for the employee retention credit on September 14, of 2023, due to the high number of potentially fraudulent claims.

But now, the IRS says it will begin processing the backlog of claims submitted between that date and January 30.

The program was created early in the pandemic to help small businesses keep paying their employees during the shutdown.
