Man, woman to receive additional charges in connection with Sunday morning Sumter County shooting

SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Two people arrested in connection with a Sunday morning shooting are facing additional charges, according to Sumter County deputies.

Terone Justin McCray and Nia Laprece Wright were arrested Wednesday, Aug. 7, for the murder of Jaquen Marquel Jefferson of Rembert on Sunday morning, Aug. 4.

Both of them are accused of shooting into a vehicle where Jefferson was a passenger and another person was driving.

Investigators say the bullets that hit the vehicle and killed Jefferson, fortunately, missed the driver who escaped injury.

As a result of the shooting, deputies also charged McCray and Wright with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle.

A judge has denied McCray and Wright’s bond, and they are awaiting trial at the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.
