Courts halt student loan plan

(CNN)– A federal appeals court on Friday, Aug. 9 sided with states to block further implementation of a student loan repayment plan.

Known as Saving On A Valuable Education or ‘SAVE’, the plan lowers monthly payments on student debt.

The fate of President Joe Biden’s plan is tied up in two legal challenges from Republican-led states.

Three judges said the education department can’t move forward until the larger legal challenge is resolved.

The court further said the states suing have the better legal argument.

The only thing the Biden Administration can do is ask the Supreme Court to lift the lower court’s order.
