Runner injured in hit, run crash; SPD works to identify driver involved
SUMTER, S.C. (WOLO)– Sumter Police are investigating a hit-and-run after a runner was injured during a crash last week, said officers.
Sumter Police Department said officers received a call before 9:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 5, about an 18-year-old man lying in the road near Ellerbee Street.
The 18-year-old was running east on Hauser Street when he was hit by a car that did not stop.
Investigators say the runner is recovering at home after being treated at an area hospital for a head wound and other injuries received during the hit-and-run.
Information gathered so far indicates a dark-colored car, possibly an older model Nissan Altima hit the runner.
The car would have sustained damage to its front end, said Sumter PD.
