RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Richland County Solid Waste & Recycling is changing the hours at two drop-off facilities to reduce confusion for residents, make service more efficient, and account for population growth and increased traffic, said county officials.

The changes affect operating hours for the Clemson Road Recycling Site at 900 Clemson Road in Columbia, and the Lower Richland Drop-off Center at 10531 Garners Ferry Road in Eastover.

Beginning September 9, hours at both facilities will change to 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday at both sites.

County Council has approved the changes to address a number of concerns which include:

  • Inconsistencies in operating hours at drop-off facilities that caused confusion for some residents
  • Population growth in Northeast Richland and increased traffic on Clemson Road during morning and evening commute times
  • A lack of vendor services and landfill access available to transport and dispose of waste on Sundays

Hours at the County’s C&D Landfill Drop-off Center at 1070 Caughman Road N. in Columbia will remain unchanged. The landfill is open 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturdays.
