Sc Attorney General's Office Amps Up Efforts To Thwart Abuse On Elderly, Mentally Impaired

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– SC Attorney General Alan Wilson has joined a coalition of 26 state attorneys general calling on the U.S. Supreme Court to take up West Virginia’s appeal of a lower court ruling that struck down the state’s law protecting girls’ sports.

The United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit blocked West Virginia’s “Save Women’s Sports Act,” which bans male athletes from playing on girls’ sports teams, saying the law violated Title IX.

West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey filed a petition with the United States Supreme Court to hear his appeal, according to a press release.

“Title IX leveled the playing field for girls and women in sports, but radically reinterpreting Title IX to allow biological boys to play on girls teams is dangerous and would reverse the gains we have made,” Attorney General Wilson said.

In addition to Attorney General Wilson, the attorneys general of Alaska, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Wyoming also signed on to the lawsuit filed by lead states Arkansas and Missouri.
