LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– A former Lexington County detention deputy is accused of providing contraband to an inmate and misconduct in office, according to SLED.

SLED agents arrested 57-year-old Yvette Constantino Wiggins after she turned herself in on Thursday morning at the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department’s headquarters.

Wiggins is accused of attempting to take cellphones into the Lexington County Detention Center for an inmate on or about November 5, 2023, through January 31, 2024, while working as a detention deputy.

She was charged with furnishing contraband, and misconduct in office by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

According to Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon, Wiggins was terminated on Tuesday, Aug. 13, after being hired by the department in October 2021.

She was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center.

“When I became aware of Ms. Wiggins’ alleged conduct, I referred the matter to SLED for an independent criminal investigation. Those who work in law enforcement are held to a higher standard as part of their duty to protect and engage community members. That’s why we hold them accountable when they fall short,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said.
