Irmo fire crews fought fire at assisted living facility Tuesday morning

IRMO, S.C. (WOLO)–  Irmo fire crews were fighting a structure fire at an assisted living facility in the 00 block of Columbia Ave on Tuesday morning, said officials.

Irmo Fire District said fire and EMS crews worked to evacuate residents and extinguish the fire at the same time.

Fire damage was limited to a laundry room and did not extend into the rest of the structure.

There were two minor injuries and the rest of the residents are safe.

Also, officials said fire and EMS crews remained at the scene to ensure that smoke was removed from the structure and assisted residents back into their units.

Crews from Columbia Fire Department (SC) and Lexington County Fire assisted with firefighting efforts, and Lexington County EMS assisted with resident evacuations and care.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
