New city initiative aims to bring color to city spaces through urban canvases

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– You might have never thought of Columbia as an arts town but that may be about to change.

A new initiative called Columbia Streams Art aims to bring color to city spaces through urban canvases.

Tuesday, Aug. 20, an art tapestry was unveiled at 620 Huger Street. The 15 by 10 feet tall piece features work from 10 different local artists.

Columbia Mayor Daniel Rickenmann spoke about the importance of art at an event Tuesday.

Other examples of urban art can be found in the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center as well as art bar.

Those involved with the new initiative are currently scoping out locations for future art projects.
