Update: Prison Director says S.C. is ready to carry out first execution in 13 years

(AP) — There’s updated information concerning a story we first told you about last week.

The state’s prison Director says South Carolina is prepared to carry out its first execution in 13 years.

Corrections Director Bryan Stirling was ordered by the State Supreme Court to submit a sworn statement to the lawyer for Freddie Owens certifying that all three methods of putting a prisoner to death are available for his scheduled September 20th execution.
those methods include lethal injection, electric chair, and firing squad.

Owens has until next Friday to decide how he wants to die, and he signed his power of attorney over to his lawyer, Emily Paavola, to make that decision for him.
