COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Benedict College has received a big donation for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) scholarships, according to a press release.

Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) donated $10,000 to Benedict College to create scholarships that can help students enroll or continue in STEM work.

SRMC President and Program Manager Dave Olson says the donation will continue to create a greater STEM-related employment pipeline for SRS.

“Benedict College is producing some top-notch STEM graduates, who are in high demand. There is always a need for top talent with STEM backgrounds, which is why it is important to invest in our educational institutions. SRMC needs to bring new STEM graduates in to ensure we can safely execute our liquid waste mission,” Olson says.

Benedict College President and CEO Dr. Roslyn Clark Artis says she is thankful that SRMC is partnering with the college and providing needed funds, as well as giving opportunities for students through capstone projects.

“We are grateful for SRMC’s investment in Benedict College and our students. SRMC’s donation will help to increase student interest in STEM disciplines while supporting Benedict’s commitment to prepare the next generation of highly knowledgeable and skilled STEM professionals,” Dr. Clark Artis says.
