SCHP begins investigating dead body found floating in Lake Murray

Lexington Co., SC (WOLO) — The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department is putting a death investigation into the hands of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

According to Lexington deputies, a body was discovered floating near the Lake Murray dam Friday morning. Lexington crews were able to recover the body from the water and allowed their crime scene investigators and major crimes division begin working the case.

Authorities are still waiting for the Lexington County Coroner’s Department to conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death. Officials say they will release the identity of the person once family members have been notified.
