SUMTER, S.C. (WOLO)– A Sumter man is in police custody and has been charged after a fatal Sunday night shooting, according to a press release.
Officers were called to the scene in the Rhododendron Street area around 10:30 p.m. where they found a vehicle stopped in the intersection and the driver inside with a gunshot
wound.
The driver who later died at Prisma Health Tuomey was 40-year-old Jeremie Devon Richardson, of Crosswell Drive.
Officers say they were able to determine that the shooting happened outside a home on Lirope Way after an argument between 38-year-old James Christopher Wilson, and a group of acquaintances who were out socializing earlier in the night.
Once Richardson got to Lirope Way, he entered the argument and there was an exchange of gunfire with Wilson, say Sumter PD.
Wilson was later found by police at a King Street home and was taken into custody.
He was booked at the county detention center and charged with murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
