Driver dies after 2-vehicle collision on Garners Ferry Road

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)–  One person is dead after a 2-vehicle collision on a Richland County road, the South Carolina Highway Patrol said on Tuesday.

The collision happened Sunday, Sept. 15, at the intersection of U.S. 76/Garners Ferry Road and Congaree Road, according to highway patrol.

It is in the Hopkins area, near McEntire Joint National Guard Base.

At about 4:50 p.m., a 2016 Toyota SUV was driving east on Garners Ferry Road.

While at the same time, a 2012 Honda sedan was heading north on Congaree Road, and as it turned left onto Garners Ferry Road the vehicles collided, highway patrol said.

The driver of the Honda was taken to Prisma Health Richland hospital in Columbia, and died on Monday, September 16, according to state troopers.

Highway patrol said the Toyota driver was not hurt, and the drivers were the only people in both vehicles.

The collision continues to be investigated by SC Highway Patrol.
