21 teens in South Carolina charged in connection with making school threats

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is charging multiple teens in connection with making school threats around schools in South Carolina, said agents.

According to a press release, the agency is aware of over 60 threats targeting schools throughout 23 counties since September 4, 2024.

Agents say the threats are extremely serious and will be treated as such.

Many of the threats were shared between students through social media and other digital messaging apps.

So, far 21 teens have been charged in connection to the school threats.

“School threats are not a joke. Law enforcement takes every threat seriously, and everyone needs to understand that there are serious consequences,” said SLED Chief Mark Keel.

Anyone with information regarding a school threat should continue to immediately report the information to local law enforcement and in an emergency, call 911.
