Tupperware files for bankruptcy

(CNN)– Tupperware and some of its subsidiaries have filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

The company known for its plastic food storage containers and sales parties announced the filing in a statement on Tuesday, Sept. 17.

Tupperware is seeking court approval to facilitate a sale process for the business.

The Florida-based company says it is also seeking court approval to continue operating during the bankruptcy proceedings.

Founded in 1946, Tupperware has struggled with declining sales in recent years.
