CAMDEN, S.C. (WOLO)– The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has charged the former Camden Military Academy Dean of Students after he allegedly had inappropriate social media communication with a cadet, say agents.
SLED says 53-year-old John Heflin was charged with criminal solicitation of a minor on Thursday, September 26.
The investigation into Heflin was requested by the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office.
Heflin is accused of persuading a juvenile at the school he worked at to send him a private picture via Snapchat.
Agents say prior to requesting the photo, Heflin had sexual conversations with the juvenile.
During a forensic interview, the juvenile said Heflin had been having these conversations with him since 2022.
In a statement CMA administration said, “CMA is committed to providing a safe learning environment for all of our cadets. Our cadets’ emotional, mental, and physical welfare, and safety have been and will always remain our top priority”.
He was booked at the Kershaw County Detention Center, and his case will be prosecuted by the 5th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
Anyone with information regarding SLED’s active and ongoing investigation involving Heflin can reach out to SLED by calling 803-896-2605 or email tips@sled.sc.gov.
