Students at Orangeburg County District schools will be taking a pledge against gun violence, as a part of a Day of National Concern about Young People and Gun Violence.

Youth across the country take the pledge every year and Orangeburg-area schools will be participating Oct. 16.

Michelle Green, the South Carolina State Lead of Voices of Black Mothers United, will help facilitate the pledges.

Voices of Black Mothers United is a national group of mothers who have lost children to violence and who are working with community partners to heal and strengthen their communities in honor of their fallen children.

The pledging will take place at Refocus Academy & STAR School.
