SLED charges former SC State student with attempted murder

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WOLO)– SLED has charged a 21-year-old former university student on Thursday, Oct. 24, say agents.

Melvin Anthony Williams is accused of firing a gun into a crowd of students and hitting one of them in the leg on March 3, 2023.

Williams was charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

He was booked into the Orangeburg County Detention Center.

The SLED (South Carolina Law Enforcement Division) investigation was requested by South Carolina State University Police Department.
