SC DOT recognizes Congressman Joe Wilson with renaming ceremony

WEST COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO) — Congressman Joe Wilson has been a public servant since the 80s when he was elected to the state senate and has represented South Carolina’s 2nd congressional for more than 20 years.

Wednesday afternoon, the longtime politician and veteran was recognized by the renaming of Columbia Airport Expressway to the Congressman Joe Wilson Expressway.

South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) staff and other elected officials unveiled the sign that will be put up near Columbia Metropolitan Airport. 

Not only is the airport in Wilson’s district, but he also says he always tries to fly local and has roots in the area.

During his time in the state senate, Wilson served on the transportation committee.
