Teen & child struck & killed in two separate collisions in Sumter
SUMTER CO., S.C. (WOLO) – The Sumter County Coroner’s Office has identified two kids who were killed after being hit by trucks on Sunday.
Coroner Robert Baker identified the victims as Marvin Butler, 15 & Basir Wells, 12, both from Sumter.
Highway Patrol says both collisions happened on Britton Road near Excitement Lane.
According to investigators, a 2020 GMC Sierra Pickup truck hit Wells around 6 a.m. Then around that same time frame, a 2014 Dodge Pickup truck hit Butler.
Authorities say Butler died on the scene while Wells was airlifted to the hospital where he later died on Tuesday.
None of the drivers involved were hurt.
Coroner Baker says Butler’s autopsy will be conducted today and Wells’ autopsy will be on Friday; both autopsies will be at MUSC Charleston.
Both collisions are under investigation.
