Chapin community celebrates Chapin Elementary young writers

CHAPIN, S.C. (WOLO)– The Chapin community celebrated young elementary school writers at the town hall, said the school district.

After school on Thursday, November 7, students, families, and community members gathered at the Chapin Town Hall to celebrate a couple of Chapin Elementary fourth-grade writers.

The Chapin’s Voices Community Writer’s Workshop showcased multiple stations that displayed fourth-grade students’ work throughout their writing process from their ideas to their final draft.

“This is just the kind of project we seek to support,” explained Team Landolph’s Executive Director and former School District Five teacher Teresa Randolph.

School district officials said participants enjoyed interactive writing challenges, opportunities to leave positive feedback on the personal narrative stories displayed, and collaborative work tables to read and share students’ stories and discuss ideas for future writings.

The workshop was part of a larger project inspired by Chapin Elementary fourth-grade teachers Jennifer Layton and Nora Congialdi who wanted to encourage and empower their young writers by providing them a larger purpose and audience for their stories, according to a press release by the district.

“We seek to grow community impact leaders through student-driven projects that connect and build the community. The students who were brave leaders to share their stories, and the teacher-leaders who worked hard each day to help them learn to communicate these pieces completely deserve to be celebrated,” continued Randolph.
