TJ Maxx says tariff plans will help

(CNN)– TJ Maxx believes President-elect Donald Trump’s tariff plans could benefit the discount chain.

Tariffs place a tax on imported goods designed to protect domestic manufacturers.

Companies typically pass that extra cost on customers in the form of higher prices.

But TJX, the parent company of TJ Maxx says it only imports a small, undisclosed percentage of its merchandise from overseas.

Much of its product is bought directly from brands after it’s already been imported.

Usually they are items that have been canceled or overproduced.
